Mr Ram (74) is a war veteran. He lost his right eye as well as two fingers fighting the Americans. His left eye developed a cataract and was operated on at a free eye camp.
He rode his bike all the way to the eye camp in Hoa Lai village in the Mekong Delta. ” I did not want to burden my children with this. They already have to work so hard,” he says.
“The Americans operated on my right eye” he laughs. “My left eye was operated on in the Binh Duong Provincial Hospital, but I still do not see very well with it and I love to read newspapers. The glasses you gave me for free are a big help. Reading is so much easier now. I am very happy with them. ”
