In Svay Rieng Province the Eye Care Foundation supports the eye care program. Since mid-2015, the activities in the field of eye care are undertaken in this province by a new eye clinic. The new eye clinic has been very busy since opening. Many patients from the surrounding catchment area have been treated here. The majority of these patients have a cataract and have been operated on in the clinic. After surgery, these people can stay overnight in hospital. The following day the protective eye caps of the operated eyes are removed and the eye is checked.
Since opening in 2015, the new eye clinic has made a major contribution to eye care in the catchment area. Before the new clinic was completed doctor Samorn, the two eye nurses and ophthalmic assistant worked at the eye department of the regional hospital. Here they had very little space and not many patients could be treated. The new clinic provides good eye care to a population of over 50,000 people.
