The Eye Care Foundation supports the eye care programme in Svay Rieng Province. Since mid-2015, a new clinic is responsible for eye care activities in this province. The new eye clinic has been very busy since it opened and many patients from the surrounding catchment area have been treated here. The majority of these patients have cataracts and have had surgery in the clinic. They can stay overnight in the hospital following surgery. The next day the protective cap on the operated eye is removed and the eye is checked.
The new eye clinic has made a major contribution to eye care in the catchment area since opening its doors in 2015. Before the new clinic was completed, doctor Samorn, the two ophthalmic nurses and ophthalmic assistant all worked in the eye department of the regional hospital. There they had very little room and they could only treat a limited number of patients. At the new clinic they are able to provide good eye care to a population of over 50.000 people.
