March has many official `health care days` that are relevant to eye care and today (March 23rd) is one of them: World Optometry Day. It is an opportunity to shine the spotlight this important eye care profession. Uncorrected refractive errors (URE) affect people of all ages and ethnic groups and are the main cause of vision impairment. They often result in lost education and employment opportunities, lower productivity and impaired quality of life. From affecting 28% of the world population to a prediction of affecting nearly 50% by 2050, myopia is rapidly on the rise (source: IAPB).
Correcting refractive errors is a focal point for the Eye Care Foundation. For example in the Vision Center project in Vietnam.
