ECF since 1994 in Lao PDR
Eye Care Foundation has been active in Lao PDR since 1994, starting with eye camps and vitamin A programs in southern province. Currently, ECF continues strengthening eye health services in Vientiane (at the National Ophthalmology Center), Xiengkhuang, and Huaphan provinces.
How we work together in Laos
Since 2012, ECF has worked with the Laotian government to prevent avoidable blindness, expand eye care services, and reach remote provinces like Xieng Khouang and Houaphan. We provide school vision screenings, train medical personnel, and run community eye care programs to ensure underserved populations have access to quality eye care and early detection services.
Our story
As Eye Care Foundation, our dream is to end avoidable blindness and visual impairment, thereby improving the socio-economic and socio-cultural position of vulnerable people, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Our works in Laos
Eye Care Foundation (formerly Mekong Eye Doctor) began its work in Laos in 1994, initially organizing eye camps in Champasak and Pakxong to address eye diseases and vitamin A deficiency among children. Between 1994 and 1999, several outreach activities and vitamin A distribution campaigns were conducted before the initiative was integrated into the national vaccination program. Today, ECF continues its mission to strengthen eye health services in three provinces: Vientiane (at the NOC), Xiengkhuang, and Huaphan.
