Highlights of Eye Care Foundation’s Activities in Cambodia

In recent months, we have been actively working in Cambodia to improve eye care services, train future professionals, and bring quality care to communities in need. Here are the key highlights of our activities:

Supporting Eye Care Professionals

Optometry Congress and Training: Our Project Manager – Piseth attended the 15th Optometrists Society of Cambodia Congress, which included training sessions for refractionists from ECF’s partner organizations. Piseth also taught the 12th batch of Refraction Students, with 25 participants (11 women) from different provinces and hospitals across the country. These efforts aim to build a stronger network of skilled eye care professionals.

Improving Women’s Access to Eye Care

Policy Development for Vision Screening: Our Project Director – Sambath joined a working group led by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, along with representatives from other ministries and NGOs. Together, they finalized a policy to create vision screening and referral pathways, making it easier for women in local communities to access eye care services.

Bringing Eye Care to Remote Communities

Pre-Mobile Eye Screenings: Piseth worked with the National Program for Eye Health and the Mondulkiri Eye Care team to conduct screenings at O’Árm and Dakdam Health Centers, reaching 99 people.

Mobile Eye Camp Services (MECS): Piseth joined the MECS team in Mondulkiri, where 150 consultations were conducted. These led to 26 cataract surgeries and 42 other eye operations. Visiting ophthalmologists provided expertise for complex cases, including traumatic eye injuries.

These activities highlight ECF’s dedication to improving eye health in Cambodia. Through training, policy development, and direct care, we continue to improve the eye care services for local communities and pave the way for a stronger eye care system.
