Screenings at kindergarten in Tanzania
13 August 2022

Tanzania, as many other countries, follows the World Health Organization guideline for eye health service provision.
In hospitals children usually have their eyes checked immediately after they are born. And after birth during several check ups.
In rural areas due to lack of adequate services some of these services are not conducted at all.
At Kindergartens the screening program is not conducted due to inadequate funding and therefore difficulties in handling the screening.
Only children where they suspect a problem are taken to hospitals for check ups and treatments.
One of the things that ECF is working on in the Morogoro region is to have a project involving eye check ups on new borns to prevent and treat avoidable blindness.
