‘Telemedicine Service’ in Primary Eye Care Centers, Nepal

06 June 2017

The Primary Eye Care Center (PECC) in Kalikot, Nepal, is now connected to the internet. This has made it possible for the PECC to start using a ‘telemedicine service’. This systems allows the PECC to be in direct contact with the central hospital, Himalaya Eye Hospital, in Pokhara. For example, it is now possible to be in direct contact with the ophthalmologist in Pokhara via Skype or to share images of patients. The telemedicine service aims to enhance the quality of eye care service in the primary eye care centres. In addition, a new format for patient records has been introduced. This will help improve the PECC`s administration. This system will also soon be implemented in Jumla, Mugu and Humla.
