Give a girl like Sushma a life-saving cataract surgery today

26 June 2025

Imagine: you’re 14 years old and live in the Humla district, one of the least developed parts of Nepal. The family you grow up in is poor. You get good grades at school. You dream of a better future for yourself and your parents.

But then things go wrong…

This is Sushma’s story. Let us take you to the small village where she grew up. A mountainous area, where her father works the land and her mother runs the house. The family can barely make ends meet.

Sushma had trouble with her eyes.

Three years ago, it was just a minor inconvenience. She never complained—she thought poor vision was simply normal. But over time, it got worse. Until she could barely see anything. She had to stop going to school. Her life turned into a nightmare.

What chances did Sushma still have, now that she could no longer see?

She didn’t know what was wrong with her eyes. But one thing was clear: without help, her dreams were over. Gone were her plans to one day care for her parents. Her hopes of building a future disappeared.

To get her eyes examined, Sushma and her father walked half a day to reach the nearest eye clinic. The diagnosis: advanced cataracts in both eyes—so severe she was almost completely blind. But surgery at the eye hospital was far away and far too expensive for her family.

Was there any hope left?

Yes.
The eye doctor who examined her told her that a mobile eye camp, run by specialized doctors from Eye Care Foundation, would soon arrive near her village.
And when she heard that the surgery would be free of charge, she was overwhelmed with relief and joy.

You can make such a happy ending possible.
