Without eye care, patients are left blind. Help is too far away and unaffordable. Will you provide them with that eye care?

22 September 2025

No eye care anywhere near available… And yet you notice your vision deteriorating every day. This is what happens to Ms. Tikki Maya Gharti (70). Her vision is deteriorating in both eyes. Visiting an eye clinic? That’s impossible for this woman. The journey there is long, burdensome, and she can’t afford it. Just like the treatment by an ophthalmologist.

Helplessly, Tikki resigns herself to a life of darkness. Because without money or eye care nearby, she has no chance of ever seeing again. Over time, both of this 70-year-old woman’s eyes deteriorate. Cooking food and caring for her livestock are no longer possible. Her children live far away and cannot take her to an eye clinic. Helplessly, Tikki resigns herself to a life of darkness. Because without money or eye care nearby, she has no chance of ever seeing again.

That is, until the Eye Care Foundation medical team travels a long way to set up an eye camp in her remote village. There, her eyes are examined. The diagnosis: cataracts in both eyes and urgent help is needed! She can’t believe it when our ophthalmologist, Dr. Anil Parajuli, is able to operate on her just a few hours later.

The next day, he removes the bandages. She opens her eyes and… sees the world clearly again. How happy she is! She shines like never before. She can now do simple daily tasks like cooking and care for her home and animals. Thankfully, Tikki is no longer dependent on others!

In the most remote and poorest areas of Nepal, tens of thousands of people lack access to eye care. Many are visually impaired and suffer from cataracts. Without care, they will go permanently blind. They lose their sight, but also their social connections, their future, and a decent life. That’s why the Eye Care Foundation brings eye care to these people in inaccessible areas. Even if we have to travel at least two days to get there!

The need is urgent. That’s why I’m asking you today: please help give more waiting eye patients like Tikki their sight back. It’s their only chance!

As soon as we arrive in these areas, we invariably see a large influx of eye patients. Often, they’re people like Tikki. After months, even years, of waiting, all their hopes are pinned on our ophthalmologists. No one should go untreated. Cataract surgery changes a life in 20 minutes. For them, and for their entire family. This is only possible thanks to exceptionally dedicated donors like you.

No sight, no future. That’s the harsh reality for these people when they don’t receive eye care. With your support, we’ll make it: new sight, new future. Your commitment and donation are invaluable.
